The Mediterranean Journal of Rheumatology has received its first-ever Impact Factor: 1.4 (JCR 2024) – a recognition of its scientific quality and growing international presence.
It is possibly the only Platinum Open Access, PubMed-indexed rheumatology journal worldwide with an Impact Factor, combining no publication fees with academic excellence and accessibility.

In the first half of 2025, two high-profile international conferences were successfully held in two distinctive cities: Alexandroupolis and Chania.

European Summer School of Internal Medicine (ESIM 2025) | Alexandroupolis 1–7 June 2025
CONVIN organized this major educational initiative by EFIM and FDIME, ESIM 2025, hosted for the first time in Greece and more specifically in Alexandroupolis, in collaboration with the Medical School of Democritus University of Thrace and the University Hospital of Alexandroupolis.
Over 80 young internal medicine specialists from across Europe participated in intensive workshops and clinical sessions, combining scientific training with the charm of a welcoming regional city.

10th Mediterranean Neuroscience Society Conference (MNS 2025) | Chania 7–11 June 2025
Held in Chania, Crete, at the Minoa Palace Resort, the MNS 2025 welcomed over 450 participants from across the Mediterranean region and beyond. CONVIN provided comprehensive support for the event, which focused on interdisciplinary collaboration and accessibility for young scientists, thanks to scholarships awarded.

8th Panhellenic Occupational Therapy Congress, Showcasing Global Expertise and Local Impact

CONVIN organized the 8th Panhellenic Occupational Therapy Congress, held from May 16 to 18, 2025, at the Eugenides Foundation in Athens. Hosted by the Panhellenic Association of Occupational Therapists (PAOT), the congress brought together key international voices and experts to explore the theme, “Occupational Therapy in a Changing World: Participation, Inclusion, and Quality of Life.” With an extensive scientific program featuring keynote speeches, interactive workshops, and specialized sessions, the event served as a vibrant platform for advancing the role of occupational therapy in addressing complex societal challenges—ranging from mental health and neurodiversity to aging and rehabilitation.
A particular highlight was the participation of Samantha Shann, President of the World Federation of Occupational Therapists, and Anu Söderström, President of the Council of Occupational Therapists for the European Countries, whose contributions underscored the global relevance and momentum of the profession. The Congress emphasized the critical role occupational therapists play in health, education, and community life, affirming CONVIN’s continued commitment to empowering scientific discourse and enhancing Greece’s standing as a hub for academic excellence.

CONVIN Delivers CAA2025 in Athens: A Landmark Conference Bridging Archaeology and Technology

CONVIN successfully organized the 52nd International Conference on Computer Applications and Quantitative Methods in Archaeology (CAA2025), held from May 5 to 9, 2025, at the University of West Attica in Athens. Gathering over 700 delegates from more than 45 countries, the conference served as a global forum for exploring the intersection of cultural heritage and advanced digital technologies. With 500+ scientific presentations, 55 thematic sessions, and 12 hands-on workshops, CAA2025 provided a platform for discussions on digital documentation, ethical innovation, and the storytelling power of tools like AI, remote sensing, and digital twins.
The event reinforced Greece’s position as a leader in digital cultural heritage and international scientific collaboration. By hosting CAA2025 in the historically significant area of Ancient Elaionas, the conference blended past and future—showcasing how digital innovation can engage communities and enhance transparency in heritage preservation. Organized by CONVIN, the conference was not only a scientific milestone but also a testament to Greece’s growing role in conference tourism and knowledge-based development.

A Dynamic Start to the Conference Season: The 19th Panhellenic Medical Congress on Obesity by CONVIN

With a high-level scientific event, CONVIN inaugurated the new conference season by organizing the 19th Panhellenic Medical Congress on Obesity from March 6 to 8, 2025, at the Royal Olympic Hotel in Athens. Hosted by the Hellenic Medical Association for Obesity, the congress brought together leading experts, healthcare professionals, and researchers to discuss the latest advancements and challenges in obesity management.

Obesity as a Chronic Disease
Obesity is not considered a mere aesthetic issue but a complex chronic disease linked to over 60 health conditions, including cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes, and various types of cancer. Additionally, social stigma surrounding obesity significantly impacts mental health, increasing rates of anxiety and depression among those affected.

Key Lectures
Among the highlights was the opening speech by Professor Dimosthenis Panagiotakos, titled “The Obesity Epidemic and the Missed Opportunities”. Moreover, Eugenia Manolidou, as an official guest speaker, highlighted the impact of the Greek diet on mental balance.

Oral Presentation Awards
Scientific excellence was recognized through awards for the best oral presentations, which covered:

  • Sympathetic nervous system dysfunction in normal-weight women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) after exercise, compared to normal-weight women without PCOS
  • The correlation between Waist Circumference (WC), Body Mass Index (BMI), and HbA1C levels in obese patients with newly diagnosed Type 2 Diabetes
  • The impact of semaglutide on weight loss and inflammation control in individuals living with HIV

CONVIN Wins Silver at Event Awards for Community Engagement & Awareness Celebrating the Transformative Impact of the Social Hackathon at IGARSS 2024

CONVIN proudly announces its Silver Award victory in the Community Engagement & Awareness category at the prestigious Event Awards 2025. The accolade recognizes the groundbreaking and impactful Social Hackathon, titled “The Odyssey of Water”, organized during the IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium (IGARSS 2024) as a CSR activity, under the presidency of Dr. H. Kontoes and Professor Vito Pascazio. This award highlights CONVIN’s commitment to organizing international scientific conferences that not only advance scientific knowledge but also address pressing societal and environmental challenges.

"The Odyssey of Water" - A Groundbreaking Social Hackathon
The Social Hackathon, aligned with the conference’s central theme (Sustainability & Resilience), aimed to raise awareness about water scarcity, showcasing how a highly scientific conference can effectively engage with critical social issues like sustainable water management.

This Social Hackathon engaged over 1,000 volunteers - more than 300 scientists from 38 countries and 750 Greek middle school students, cooperated in a creative mission to address the critical issue of proper water resource management. Through advanced animation techniques, participants produced two impactful animation spots:

  • The first aimed at raising awareness about water sustainability.
  • The second, delivered practical solutions for everyday water conservation.

These spots will be broadcasted both in Greece and abroad, amplifying the message of sustainability far beyond the symposium. The concept and the implementation of “The Odyssey of Water” was made by AdMore.

A Commitment to Sustainability and Collaboration
CONVIN’s approach reflects a deep commitment to sustainability and innovation. From fostering collaborations among global scientists to involving youth in environmental advocacy, the Social Hackathon demonstrated how scientific congresses can drive societal progress. This CSR initiative exemplifies the “Acting for Sustainability and Resilience” theme of IGARSS 2024 and serves as a model for future events.
